GitHub's current docs and plans page no longer describe a Copilot Pro trial, so its renewal terms could not be read today. On Apr 13 2026 GitHub paused all trials, including existing ones, and told trial users they could switch to Copilot Free or upgrade to a paid plan.
How to cancel
Web (github.com)
- Click your profile picture (top right), then Settings.
- In the "Access" section of the sidebar, click Billing & licensing, then Licensing (on the original billing platform: Billing and licensing, then Plans and usage).
- In the "GitHub Copilot" section, open the Manage subscription dropdown and click Cancel subscription.
- Confirm with Cancel Copilot Pro (or Pro+ / Max). The plan ends at the end of your current billing cycle and your account drops to Copilot Free.
GitHub: "You'll retain access to your current features until your billing cycle ends." and "You will automatically be downgraded to Copilot Free at the end of your billing cycle." (https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/how-tos/manage-your-account/view-and-change-your-copilot-plan). The licenses page says cancelling a monthly plan keeps access to the end of the cycle "with no proration"; the only refund it describes is a prorated one when a Business/Enterprise seat replaces a personal plan (https://docs.github.com/en/billing/concepts/product-billing/github-copilot-licenses).
